Mariposas Marinas

Would you like to learn (or teach) about some of the most charismatic microfauna in the ocean?

Mariposas Marinas is an illustrated children's book about sea butterflies. It is bilingual (Spanish-English) and written at a third-grade reading level. However, it is designed to be accessible to adults and children of all ages.

In this book, we describe these beautiful and fascinating zooplankton. We also introduce the idea of bioinspiration in engineering and explore the many different kinds of questions you can ask about the ocean.

In addition to being featured in over one hundred national and international media outlets, Dr. Murphy's sea butterfly swimming research has also appeared in The New York Times and on the YouTube channel Scishow (with over 6 million subscribers).

This is a project funded by the National Science Foundation. A limited print run will donate books to local schools, libraries, and other learning institutions in the following areas: Bermuda; Tempe, AZ; Tampa Bay, FL; and Madison, WI.

If you are in one of these areas and want to ensure you can access the book, don't hesitate to contact us!

If you are outside one of these areas, we may be able to send classroom or library sets for just the shipping cost.

Please get in touch with us to explore options!
